Day Two: Reflexology

By Emily Davies

Today has been so packed! There have been eight different activities happening in and around the SU and I’m here to tell you how some of them went!

Reflexology was my first activity of the day and I have to admit, I wasn’t 100% sure what it was and what we would be doing. What I did know was that Eddie Burgess from Re-Fresh UK would be hosting it as he did the Indian Head Massage yesterday and after seeing that, I knew I was in for a treat.

One personal problem I had was the fact that it involved feet (I should have found out beforehand) and the problem is I don’t like my own so I really wasn’t too keen on the idea of touching someone else’s.

However, I was ‘lucky’ to be partnered up with Pluto’s very own Ricki Dewsbury who has lovely feet, if you can use those two words in the same sentence! Personally, I thought he got the short straw, but this blog is not about my feet!

Anyway, we started off by cleansing (thank goodness) and moisturising the feet. The smell from the rose water that we used covered up any smelly sock odours and to be honest touching someone else’s feet wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Following this we massaged the feet so that our partners felt relaxed and calm (this didn’t apply to the people who had ticklish feet, who actually looked like they were in pain every time their feet were touched!) before going on to work on the various areas of the feet.

I have to admit I never thought that a foot could affect so many different areas of the body. Each foot can affect most parts of the body, but left and right effect different areas of the digestive system. One of the key points I think we all took away with us today and will never forget, was that there is an area around the centre of your right foot (don’t quote me on the exact area) that, when pressed, can relieve you of trapped wind! However, If you ever try this make sure nobody’s around!

I found this session really relaxing and it was strange how you could feel certain parts of your body reacting as the different areas of your foot were massaged. I’m usually quite sceptical of things like this, but I can honestly say that it works and it’s definitely worth giving it a go if you ever get the chance.

Unfortunately, as we were all in a very dreamy state during this session I didn’t manage to get any photos, but I’m sure you didn’t want to see peoples’ feet anyway!

I’ve again got some audio pieces, this time from Ricki Dewsbury about how he is finding Give It A Go and what he thought of Reflexology and a brief interview with Eddie Burgess who, as well as hosting today’s event with a colleague, is a UCLan student too. These will be uploaded asap as I’m still having technical problems.

Look out for my next blog that should be up in a bit!

One Response to “Day Two: Reflexology”

  1. Ricki Dewsbury Says:

My feet are lovely, indeed! I moisturised them especially for the reflexology.
The blog is a great idea – and so is the Give it a Go week. Lots of different people have tried activities that they wouldn’t usually have the time or money to do. Long may it continue.
