Day One: Spa Treatment and Indian Head Massage

By Emily Davies

Hi I’ve nearly got everything working so you can now see some pictures from yesterday, but you will have to wait until later on today or perhaps even tomorrow to hear some audio of what other students thought of the events and the views of the people running the events. Really sorry about that, I’m not great with technology!

So, what did I do yesterday? Well I have to admit I spent rather a long time at the Hand and Foot Spa Treatment, I mean all that pampering and it only cost £2.50! Some of the second year girls from Preston College came down with their tutor, Gill Ward and spent 3 hours going over things such as how to make your own body scrub to help you exfoliate out of things you would find in your kitchen, such as oatmeal and oil.

The weirdest part was when we had our arms and legs wrapped in cling film. I have to admit I’m still not sure why we had to do this, but I think it had something to do with the cream we put on beforehand. To be honest I was so relaxed I ended up in a little world of my own!!!

But in true Give It A Go style, we got to pamper the beauty students, now that was a laugh! I have absolutely no idea how to massage arms and legs and even though we had just been shown how to do it, it was a little bit like being on the ‘Generation Game’ because it looks a lot easier than it is, but I was pretty impressed when I was told I was doing it right.

Towards the end we dimmed the lights and did some relaxation techniques, this nearly did send me to sleep. It’s surprising how breathing slowly can calm you down, I didn’t want the session to end and by the looks, neither did anyone else.

Two tips I do remember however, are; if you want to relax then lavender does the trick and the scent of lemon can brighten you up and make you feel more alert!

Afterwards I spoke to Anna Tholen, 23, who is studying Social Work and is from Sweden. She said: “I really like Give It A Go, it’s nice to take part. In Sweden we don’t do this kind of thing and the selection is really good.”

She added that she “really enjoyed the oatmeal” part of the spa treatment.

Here are some pictures from the event:

Ok this first one is the group trying to clean the oatmeal off our arms, it was quite messy!

This is Becky from Preston College, I had to wrap her in cling film!

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to upload an audio clip from the tutor, Gill Ward, telling you a little bit more about the beauty treatments available at Preston College so look out for that.

Also one of Gill’s colleagues from Preston College is coming on Thursday to do the Hair and Make-Up session at 1pm so if you have tickets, enjoy!

During a break in the middle of Spa Treatment, I popped over to the upstairs bit of 53° and had a look at what was going on at the Indian Head Massage event.

This event sold out last week and I’m not surprised it was so popular as everyone looked so relaxed and the atmosphere was very calming.

The session involved pairs taking it in turns to massage each other, but with the relaxing music on in the background I wasn’t surprised to hear that some people fell asleep!

Here’s a quick picture I took yesterday, hope the reflexology is that relaxing today!

Although I didn’t get to give this a go, Tom Davis who is studying Deaf Studies and English gave me a quick interview, but yet again because of the audio problem this won’t be up until later, sorry.

But, if like me, you wish you had got the chance to do this event never fear as Re-Fresh UK, who held yesterday’s event are taking care of the Reflexology session today at 12.30pm and last I heard there were still some tickets available so get them quick.

Ok that’s the end of this update, I’m loading up the evening’s events asap.

One Response to “Day One: Spa Treatment and Indian Head Massage”

  1. Holistic Junction Says:

I’ve heard about Indian head massage, and as a long-time migraine sufferer, I imagine massage techniques like this could be very beneficial to improving circulation in that region. Look forward to reading more about this as your blog progresses.

    Thanks for sharing.
